Student athletes receive honors for performances

St. Edward’s University athletes have been racking up Heartland Conference honors since the start of the fall athletic season.

The St. Edward’s men’s soccer team was honored for three weeks in September. Joeski Williams received offensive player of the week on Sept. 6-12 and co-player of the week on Sept. 13-19. John Kashak received defensive player of the week on Sept. 6-12 and Sept. 20-26, and J.R. Ellis received offensive player of the week Sept. 20-26.

The women’s soccer team’s Kelly Servage received co-offensive player of the week on Aug. 30-Sept. 5. For the week of Sept. 6-12, Janae Averett received offensive player of the week,  and Troi Jorgensen received defensive player of the week. Kristen Hart received co-offensive player of the week on Sept. 13-19, for her game winning and first colliegiate goal against Texas Woman’s University. For the week of Sept. 20-26 both Brianna Hinnenkamp, who scored the game winning goal against Angelo State, and Kelly Boyd who scored the game winning goal in overtime against Incarnate Word, both received player of the week.

The St. Edward’s volleyball team’s Chelsea Barsamian, who is averaging 9.62 assists-per-set this year, received setter of the week for Sept. 6-12 and 13-19. Ale’tra Ware received hitter of the week for Sept. 6-12 after she had 10 kills in each match that week.

Wallis Spears from St. Edward’s women’s golf team received women’s golfer of the week for Sept. 20-26 for her performance at the Sonoma State Women’s Invitational when she led her team to a third-place finish, and she herself finished seventh. Her scoring average is 74.8 so far this season, the best on the team.
