Salty Sow serves up delicious food only for special occasions

s we entered Salty Sow, the first thing I realized about the restaurant is that I was painfully underdressed. Salty Sow is American food, so I assumed my attire should be casual. Yet I soon discovered that my oversized t-shirt, ripped jeans and flip-flops weren’t cutting it.

While Salty Sow isn’t lavish, it definitely isn’t Whataburger. Most guests are in dresses, nice blouses and slacks.

Despite the beautifully decorated interior with dim lighting and various trending paintings, mainly of pigs on the walls, I highly recommend dining outside. The open, wooden patio and multi-colored twinkle lights give this charming space a rustic feel. Glass bottles of water, wooden tables and minimalistic table settings add to the relaxed yet contemporary atmosphere.

The friendliness of the staff immediately impressed me. The hostess greeted us with a sunny smile, and our waiter engaged us in friendly conversation. He acted impressed when I, a five-foot-tall female, ordered the double cheeseburger.

The food was absolutely delicious but on the pricier side for financially struggling college students. Salty Sow seems to be more of a special occasion restaurant than an everyday dinner establishment, great for a birthday or anniversary dinner.

For an appetizer, we ordered the deviled eggs. While they were very good, if I go back, I don’t think I would order them again. Paying $6.50 for four eggs just isn’t worth it to me.

The double cheeseburger, on the other hand, was worth every penny. Even though it was a whole $16, it was probably the juiciest hamburger that I’ve ever eaten.

However, the rack of pork chops were less impressive, despite coming on top of a bed of wonderful sweet potatoes. They were about average as far as pork chops go and were on the drier side.

The dessert was by far the best part of the experience. It is worth going back, solely for the dessert. The table was silent after the blueberry pound cake with ice cream and chocolate raspberry cake hit the table. Before long we were too busy enjoying every last bite.

All in all, eating at Salty Sow was a great experience. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was delicious, especially the dessert.

Although it may be considered on pricey for college students, Salty Sow is a great restaurant for an upper scale night out.
