My major is Global Studies. I wanted to do math as a minor, but I didn’t have enough time for that.
My passion is traveling the world. I haven’t gone everywhere that I would like to yet, but I am working on it. I love all different cultures, food and music. I go to Mexico every year because my family is from there. I’m first a generation Mexican-American.
My family and I went on a cruise along the Caribbean Islands and we’ve been to Europe. I’ve travelled to Turkey, France, Italy, England and I’ve spent summers abroad. I may go to Japan next spring break and this summer I’m thinking about going to Cuba.
I remember this one day in World History class in middle school where we watched a documentary on children in rural Africa. In that moment I realized how much I hadn’t seen of the world.
Sometimes I see myself with a boyfriend or a husband backpacking or discovering new places. But there’s another vision I have where I see myself as an adult, traveling by myself, being a photographer. I’m getting paid to travel or something.
Right now I have a camera. It’s a Canon Powershot SX40. I like to take pictures of nature and landscapes mostly. Like in Mexico, I took tons of pictures with farmland in the forefront and then beautiful mountains in the back. But my favorite pictures are ones that just capture the moment.
My favorite quote is by Saint Augustine. He says, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”
I think you haven’t found yourself if you haven’t traveled.
