Crisp autumn breezes, crunchy leaves, and nostalgia. It’s snuggling season again, and we are all looking for ways to keep cozy between Pumpkin Spice Lattes and weekend Netflix binges.
No matter what’s on your agenda for the day (or night), fur is where class meets warmth. The fur coat, having been around since the dawn of fashion, is “timeless, yet very much in-the-moment,” according to Elle Magazine.
And, thanks to animal rights activists and policy-makers of the 1960s, ‘fur’ attire is now vegan and just as fabulous. Gone is the era of scratchy and borderline plastic synthetics; perfectly livable faux fur coats, vests, and various other fuzzy accessories are now offered at their finest from Guess, Topshop and Karl Lagerfeld.
The best part—affurdability! H&M and Damselle offer selections for under $100. So, go ahead, fake it!
Take note, this look is best in moderation; too much fluff and you could come out looking a little too Chewbacca. Furs come in all lengths from bohemian and shaggy to short and chic, and everything in between.
Pair your bulky fur with form-flattering skinnies to highlight your silhouette, or simply keep it light with fur handbags and shawls. Thinner furs are best coupled with garments similar to their hues, or classic white or black.
And never underestimate the fuzz effect of fur-lined boots, hats and gloves. Wear your furs in Kate Moss inspired neutrals, Burberry bold prints, or fun and flirty pinks, à la Gaga.
Although once “the epitome of elegant femininity during the 1950s,” fur is no longer exclusive to women’s fashion, according to Fashion Beans, a men’s style site. Fur, along with florals and statement digital prints, has surpassed gender expectations.
Gentleman, you can dress down this trend with subtle fur-collared jackets, or go prim and proper with floor-length fur coats (think Gucci or Emporio Armani). Simple, modest outfits combine flawlessly with neutral faux furs for a refined masculinity. With fuzzy apparel, be sure not to over-accessorize—less is certainly more.
Faux fur is great for maintaining sophisticated style when sporting a pile of knit blankets around town sounds increasingly more appealing. Remember: keep it simple; you can’t go wrong with neutrals; and cruelty-free faux is the way to go!
