J. Cole and Wale recently visited Austin Music Hall during their “What Dreams May Come” Tour on Oct. 19. The sold-out crowd of more than 5,000 fans witnessed four hours of performances that ran through all of their greatest hits, including their newest albums “Born Sinner” and “The Gifted” that were released by Cole & Wale respectively.

The concert started off with New York City native Bas, who is signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville Records label, performing songs off his mixtape “Quarter Water Raised Me Vol. II” for the nearly-packed crowd.

The start time was listed at 8 p.m., but it was close to 9 p.m. when Wale walked onto the stage. The crowd erupted as Wale kicked off the concert with his verse to the song “No Hands,” which the crowd highly assisted him with, and from there on the crowd would go into a frenzy when they heard the beat drop to “Pretty Girls,” “Lotus Flower Bomb,” “LoveHate Thing” and other hits for the duration of Wale’s hour-long set.

40 minutes later, the curtain blocking J. Cole’s set fell down to reveal the stage, two back-up singers/dances, a DJ, a guitarist, a pianist, a drummer behind sound-proof glass and a TV screen that projected a newscast about J. Cole and Bas being severely injured in a car crash that killed both the drivers instantly. J. Cole then proceeded to come from atop a staircase to a large uproar of fans singing along to his song “Trouble.”

According to Cole, the purpose of the tour is to show that regardless of how you may think you are at the top or even feel like you are in heaven, the things you thought were heaven can come crashing down beneath you and send you to the worst hell imaginable. Cole preformed most of the songs off his latest gold-certified album, “Born Sinner,” as well as a few from his studio debut “Cole World: The Sideline Story.”

At the end of the night, Cole walked out to a standing ovation from the packed Austin crowd, thanking them for their attendance and for being a “true fan since day one.”
