Galentine’s Day, a holiday that celebrates female friendship, has slowly become more and more popular over the years. The “Parks and Rec” episode that created the holiday premiered on Feb. 11, 2010.

Galentine’s Day is slowly knocking Valentine’s Day out of the way as it opts to focus on celebrating the women in your life. What started out as an episode on the NBC sitcom, “Parks and Recreation” has become a long-standing tradition for women, especially the single ladies. The show’s main character, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) is a strong advocate for the holiday and explains how she goes out for brunch with her gal pals every year on Feb. 13.

“My lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas,” she explains in the episode.

Here are five ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day.

  1. Support boss babes

On a holiday that celebrates empowering women, it’s only right to support women-owned businesses and promote them on social media. More than likely, they will appreciate the shoutout and support.

OMG Squee is a woman-owned dessert shop perfect for your Galentine’s Day sweet tooth. It features gluten-free sweets, including character macarons, jiggly cheesecakes, drinks and taiyaki ice cream. Sarah Lim, the owner, says she was inspired by her Texan and Asian American roots.

  1. Galentine’s Day with Austin Books and Comics

Austin Books and Comics will host a Galentine’s Day party where women of all ages can enjoy a private shopping experience just for girls. There will be snacks, games, movies and comics. All graphic novels written by female authors will be 15% off. The free event will be going on from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

  1. Galentine’s Day with The Jackalope South Shore

Celebrate Galentine’s Day by treating yourself and your girlfriends to a night full of activities hosted by The Jackalope South Shore. This event will feature a mimosa bar with other drink specials, a lash station provided by milk + honey spa, a photo booth, tarot card readings and BFF tattoos. There will also be a raffle. To enter the raffle, all you have to do is donate clothes. Every HEB bag full of donated clothes is equivalent to one raffle ticket. The more donations you bring, the more tickets you receive.

  1. Brunch

If you are an early bird, then following Leslie Knope and kicking it “breakfast-style” is the best way to kickoff your Galentine’s Day. After all, is there really a more deserving meal? By combining both breakfast and lunch, you have a plethora of options to pick from. South Congress Cafe is a continental restaurant that serves brunch all day long. They are most known for their carrot cake french toast and drink specials. If you have not been already, there’s no better day to try it out than Galentine’s Day.

  1. Spa Day

What better way is there to make you feel special than a day at the spa? A day full of relaxation and rejuvenation is undoubtedly helpful when it comes to treating yourself and the women in your life. Schedule manis and pedis, facials and massages, then spend time getting pampered with your girls. To make the day even better, pair your spa session with one of the activities mentioned above and you’ll be an official Galentine’s Day pro.
