Pisces tattoo symbolizes patience and self acceptance for student

Pisces, the 12th astrological sign in the Zodiac, originates from the Pisces constellation.

People born Feb. 19 – March 20, are said to be imaginative, sensitive, compassionate and kind.

This characterization is one close to sophomore Deja Morgan’s heart, or in a more literal sense, her ear.

Morgan chose a Pisces symbol for her first tattoo. Placed behind her ear, the image, Morgan believes, symbolizes a lot about who she is.

The Pisces sign is represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions. Like fish, Pisces are said to be receptive and sometimes pulled in many different directions by the tides of life.

“This summer I worked at a history museum, and they had a mayan exhibit,”  Morgan said. “The Mayans used Zodiac and celestial heavenly bodies to help their people understand who they were as individuals.”

Like many people who follow the Zodiac, Morgan said she can relate.

“I believe that knowing and loving my Zodiac sign has allowed me to embrace the good and not so good sides of myself,” Morgan said.

Pisces are dreamers. Emotional and creative, they feel for others and make lasting impressions on everyone they meet. Morgan believes she exudes the Pisces aura as an actress, friend and worker.

Although the tattoo is small and behind her ear, where she can keep it hidden throughout her acting and theatre career, it makes a big statement.

“Understanding who I am has allowed me to grow a lot and be more patient with myself,” Morgan said. “Knowing those traits of being a Pisces has helped me to do that more.”

Despite getting the tattoo with an ex-friend on her birthday, the origin of the ink doesn’t evoke negative feelings.

Instead, Morgan uses it as a symbol of self-love and a reminder to be patient with herself everyday.

Morgan believes tattoos can be more than just an act of individuality. They are reminders for people to love who they are and express it for the rest of their lives.

“This tattoo is like a little proclamation of being Deja,” Morgan said. “I embrace being a Pisces down to a T.”
