After a long search for “Most Adorable Free Event in Austin,” Corgi Meetups, a public group called Austin Corgi Lovers, has won the title.

Founded in August 2011 by Michael Manning, the group aims to unite all corgi addicts in meeting other local corgis and their owners.

There are now meeting locations in Round Rock, Pflugerville, Cedar Park and Bastrop as well.

The group has a grand total of 60 meetups so far, with over 650 corgi lovers as part of the group.

Whether you’re a corgi owner or corgi enthusiast, all are welcome in the celebration of these short-legged furballs.

The meetups usually occur once a month all across different dog parks in Austin, and each meeting is themed according to the month or season.

Themes this year include April Romps!, Spring Romp! (March), February Corgi Valentine, January Corgi, Annual Austin Corgi Lovers Holiday Gift Exchange (December), November Austin Area Corgi Lover Meetup! and one of the most popular, Corg-o-Ween (October).

Spring Romp! brought a huge turnout at Zilker Park, bringing on a vast array of corgis to fawn over, along with the usual dozens of pooches at Zilker on a Sunday afternoon.

The holiday-themed meetups seem to be the events that have attracted the biggest audience and corgi turnout, and surely for a good reason.

At Corg-o-Ween at West Austin Dog Park, approximately 50 corgis– dressed in their best costumes– attended with their owners to celebrate Halloween.

At the November corgi event at Cedar Bark Dog Park at Cedar Park, corgis came decked out in their best Christmas sweaters in preparation for the upcoming Christmas season.

No matter the theme, corgis of all shapes, sizes, colors and mixes come together to frolic in the grass, sniff dog butts and have a bark bigger and louder than their actual size.

Not only are the Corgi Meetups free, but they’re also a great opportunity to become acclimated with the continual rise of the dog community here in Austin.

Austin Corgi Lovers’ Corgi Meetups have given 10 a.m. on a Sunday a whole new meaning with the monthly meetup of some of the cutest corgis Austin has to offer.
