Drake’s new music video ‘Hotline Bling’ nerdy but successful

Drizzy released his video for “Hotline Bling” yesterday, and the internet flipped sh-t.

We can all agree that Drake is God’s single and only blessing given to Canada.

First, we thought it was dear sk8r grl Avril; then we thought it was tween hair-flipping Justin, but Degrassi’s Jimmy was the real diamond in the rough.

He has been stealing hearts since 2001, and girls just can’t deny his sad-boy, good-guy charm.

Not only did he start his career rapping about how boys just don’t treat us girls the way we deserve to be treated, but he basically saved Rihanna from her abusive relationship with Chris Brown in 2009. He has become the definition of “bae” material; but is this new video too nerdy to handle?

Honestly, I feel bad for the rep the video is getting because the aesthetics are actually amazing. Obviously inspired by American artist James Turrell, the light and space in the video are flawless, and the minimal color is very modern and 2015.

But his dance moves are far too distracting from the artistic aesthetics. The video makes it hazy whether or not Aubrey is actually a good dancer, but we all can’t help but secretly wish he wasn’t as bad in real life as the video makes it seem.

I mean, he dances like a middle-aged white dude that’s a little past tipsy but not wasted just yet. And I can only handle so many wrist-flicks in one video.

Memes, GIFs and parody videos flooded the interwebs minutes after the video was released, and “Hotline Bling” was indeed very hot.

Needless to say, the audience was left in a daze, questioning whether this was the actual video or not. I literally had to turn it off the first time I tried to watch it because I couldn’t handle the awkwardness and thought I clicked on the wrong link.

First of all, I don’t like watching someone dance alone in an empty room; I would never choose to watch someone dance alone in an empty room.

Second, I don’t want to watch that same person dance like they’ve been possessed by an old white man on a cruise. This half-dancing half-wiggling thing that first Lorde and now Drake are attempting is losing my interest very quickly.

I hate to be logical here, but ends don’t really meet throughout the video either. It starts off with a whole bunch of girls working in a phone operating place, and then Drake is swaying/dancing/rapping in a turtleneck. And then the girls come back and are posing, because it’s not a real music video if there aren’t girls posing.

Like, who are these girls and why are they here? Does Drake own this phone operating company? Is it cold where he is? Is that why he is wearing a parka and a Mr. Rogers sweater?

I mean, I think I get it. I see what he’s trying to do and I still love him.

Does it look as cool as he probably wanted it to be? All I know is he won’t be swooning any ladies with those dance moves.
