UPD: No credible threat from anonymous post

St. Edward’s University Police Department sent students an email early this morning alerting them about an anonymous post online that threatens students in the Austin area.

“There is no reason to believe there is a credible threat to our campus,” said Captain Dan Beck in the email. UPD is working with other law enforcement agencies while the situation develops.

The University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University also issued warnings to their students.

The anonymous message was posted on 4chan. The post has since been deleted.

Along with an email, SEU posted an update to their Facebook page.

The 4chan post said, “Some of you guys are alright. Don’t go to school tomorrow if you’re near Austin. happening thread will be posted later. so long, space robots.”

This threat comes a few days after the Umpqua Community College shooting in Oregon that led to the death of nine students and staff members. There was a post on 4chan last Wednesday night that warned students in the Northwest against attending school the next day — which is when the shooting happened.
