Tattoo of a Biblical scripture inspires senior to think of God

Senior Shelbi Young has a tattoo on the top of her foot as a reminder not to ever give up. The tattoo says “Walk by Faith” and also has a cross next to it.

She got her tattoo in October 2013, shortly after moving to Austin for school. Young was accompanied by some of her friends while getting her tattoo, but none of them were there for significant reasons other than just being there for a friend. Her friends just wanted to go and watch her get a tattoo.

“They wanted to see a tattoo being done, specifically on a foot. None of them had tattoos at the time,” Young said.

When asked why she got her tattoo Young said, “I had wanted one [tattoo] for a while and I finally decided to get it, only after I spent some time researching the best shops and artists around town.”

Young got the idea to get “Walk by Faith” on her foot because it was a perfect reminder to her that everything that happens in her life is all part of God’s plan.

“We might not understand why we are subject to some events in our lives or why things happen at the moment they do, but this tattoo is a reminder for me to ‘walk by faith, not by sight.’ 2 Corinthians 5:7,” Young said.

When she feels lost, worried or confused Young turns to scripture or goes to church for some comfort. Being a woman of strong faith, Young lives her life knowing and believing that everything God is doing in her life is for a reason.

Young definitely sees more tattoos in her future, but she has yet to think more in depth about what exactly she wants to get next.

One idea that she has is a tattoo in memory of her grandparents that have passed away.

“They played a huge role in my life and contributed greatly to me becoming the person I am today,” Young said.
