Body found at Lady Bird Lake identified as missing student Eleno Valle

Update Monday 4:23 p.m.: The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the body found Monday morning in Lady Bird Lake as Eleno Valle, who was reported missing Feb. 7

This body was found this morning in Lady Bird Lake near Lavaca and Cesar Chavez and recovered by Austin Fire and Rescue. 

“The past 10 days while Eleno was missing have been a period of anxious waiting for the university community. We are saddened by the news of Eleno’s death and our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends,” said university spokeswoman Mischelle Diaz. 

Campus Ministry will hold a Memorial Mass for Valle in Jones Auditorium at 5 p.m. on Feb. 19.

Update Monday 2:20 p.m.: Austin Police Department received a call at 8:42 a.m. on Monday reporting a body found in Lady Bird Lake. They are investigating it as a suicide, according to the Austin American-Statesman. 

The university spokeswoman, Mischelle Diaz, confirmed that the St. Edward’s University police department was on the scene as part of the “ongoing search and investigation” relating to the disappearance of Valle.
