Homecoming weekend brings music, casino games and prizes

On Friday Feb. 21, the University Programming Board (UPB) will be hosting this year’s Homecoming Casino Night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Austin Sports Center, which is just across Woodward Street from St. Edward’s University.

At Casino Night this year, UPB will be promoting “New Location, New Party.” Although this venue is technically off the St. Edward’s campus, the Austin Sports Center is just a short walk from the parking garage and any of the residence halls, making the venue still highly accessible for students.

UPB invites you to come play a few rounds of your favorite casino games, including blackjack, craps and poker. The event will also provide various appetizers, refreshments, dessert options and the chance to win amazing raffle prizes.

If that is not enough of a reason to attend, the Casino Night venue will also offer a variety of music. UPB  has booked a live DJ for this Homecoming event.

“It’s going to be a really fun event in which students have the opportunity to dress up, hang out with friends and just have a good time playing card games,” Nathalie Eguiza from the Transitional Experiences Council at Student Life said.

Make sure to arrive early, though. The Homecoming Court will be announced at Casino Night at 9 p.m. All students can vote for Mr. and Ms. SEU from Feb. 17-21 on Collegiate Link. All faculty members, staff and students are eligible to vote.

“It’s going to be a great event and we are very excited for it,” Jonathan Stockdale, the executive director of UPB, said.

St. Edward’s invites students’ parents and family to join you during the Homecoming and Family Weekend. The Casino Night celebration is just one part of this  annual weekend event. The St. Edward’s Family Weekend has something for just about everyone, including an official Homecoming Tailgate and BBQ on Feb. 22, as well as Mass and Brunch event on Feb. 23.

Casino Night will be free  of charge for all current students with a valid St. Edward’s student ID card. All other guests can pay their entrance fee of $15 at the door. The Austin Sports Center will be accepting all forms of payment.

Get dressed up and try your luck at this year’s Homecoming Casino Night.
