University has 36 days to raise $1.7 million for science building

The School of Natural Sciences has started a campaign to continue raising money for the second installation of the Natural Sciences Center. In order to get a donation of $1 million to complete the building, St. Edward’s University must raise about $1.7 million in 36 days.

“The ‘Say Yes to Mabee’ campaign is trying to do two things: educate and motivate,” said Joe DeMedeiros, associate vice president for development.

“Say Yes to Mabee” campaign, which began unofficially on Oct. 18, according to DeMedeiros. The campaign also includes a variety of awareness-raising efforts, from the use of social media to events where Dean of the School of Natural Sciences Thomas Mitzel can meet with friends of the university to talk about the benefits of the South Building.

The campaign also includes a mailing to people who have given to the university in the past, a phonathon and e-mails to alumni. In addition, members of the Faculty and Staff Campaign have endorsed the Mabee Challenge efforts and will sign an appeal to ask faculty and staff to consider a gift to complete the Mabee Challenge, according to DeMedeiros.
