Martin reveals plans for construction

Construction projects that affect at least five buildings will begin over the next few years.

St. Edward’s University President George Martin revealed additional plans for the construction of the new library as well as the second science building during the Sept. 14 president’s meeting. Martin also discussed plans to renovate the Alumni Gym and chapel and to demolish Mang House.

“When you look around at other institutions, who’s building?” Martin said during the president’s meeting. “Harvard has their projects on hold, and we are continuing to move forward with our building.”

The renovations to the Alumni Gym, which are funded by a $1.7 million gift by University Federal Credit Union, will include air conditioning and new office spaces.

The university plans on demolishing Mang House and constructing a new building in its place, and the chapel interior will be reconstructed.

“The hope is to have extensive landscape grounds which will be meditation grounds possibilities for liturgical celebrations outside,” Martin said.
