Bikes abandoned on campus to be auctioned for charity

The St. Edward’s University Police Department will hold a silent auction this month during which students can bid on bicycles and lost and found items that have been collected from the past school year.

The auction will be held on Sept. 29 in the Ragsdale Center between 8 a.m. and noon. The minimum bid on bicycles will be $15.

The profits from the bike auction will go to Campus Ministry. The profits from the lost and found auction will go to the Campus Community Emergency Response Team, which trains people in basic disaster response skills.

Of the 20 bikes being auctioned, 15 were abandoned on campus during the summer. Officer Alice Gilroy of UPD said the university is working on creating a decal program for bike users on campus. In the meantime, students have the option to register their bicycles with UPD.
