Local show hits year mark

The Austin Variety show, a unique local television show, is starting to take root during its second season in Austin.

Filmed usually monthly at different locations around Austin, including the Highball club last February, the show is a mixture of live local music, adult- oriented comedy acts and adult games with audience participation.

The series is shown on KBVO “My Austin TV” channel every Saturday from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. The show was created by Tom Booker and local musician Troy Dillinger.

Dillinger, who used to do a live fan event for Comedy Central’s “Adult Swim,” encompasses much of the same infamous crude humor seen on the late night show.

This show also does a great job of working with and promoting local businesses. Gifts and prizes are given throughout the show that come from many local companies, including Strange Brew coffee house and Dreamers DVD store. Currently, there is a filming session for a new show being released in early October, and on Sept. 18 there was a premiere party at Strange Brew for the beginning of the show’s second season.

One can get information about more viewing parties there or from the show’s website, http://www.austinvarietyshow.com.The show also has both Facebook and Twitter accounts.

While an “Adult Swim” type of humor might not interest you, a very interesting live act including audience interaction may be just up your alley, especially if you are looking to attend something extraordinarily out of the ordinary or get your 15 minutes of fame.
