Fun, free events around Austin

We are all very fortunate to be able to live in such a wonderful, engaging, and fun city. Austin has so much to offer to all types of individuals. Whether you enjoy music, food, parades, or adventure the opportunities are endless.

Austin offers fun for people of all ages and the best part is that a majority of the time these events are FREE! I am always looking for free events near me, but this last weekend was a little more difficult because of the rain.

I managed to find a free event that goes on rain or shine. The city is full of farmer’s markets that are set up no matter what the weather is like. So, I decided to go farmer’s market hopping. I made my way around the city from South Austin to downtown exploring what these farmers markets had to offer and meeting local produce growers, farmers, and small local business owners.

The farmers markets were full of local vendors selling fresh produce. The best part about the market was being able to taste all of the great vegetables, homemade baked goods, and fresh squeezed juices.

Not only did I get to stock up on fresh produce and yummy homemade breads, but I also got the chance to listen to a local musician. Ley Line, a local alternative folk soul band was playing some good music to accompany my rainy day shenanigans.

Since I was already out and about I decided to also check out the South Congress vendors that set up every first Thursday of the month and on the weekends. The vendors are set up by local artists selling their impressive art work. These vendors are snug between Vespaio and South Congress Books. This is an event that allows local artists to showcase their talents.

If you are anything like me, a broke college student then you’ll enjoy all the free things Austin has to offer. It’s a matter of getting out and exploring what the city has to offer. So go on and get out there and engage in the Austin culture and support the community and your local artists.
