Austin’s $6 drive-in offers nostalgic experience, classic Halloween movies

Going to the movies is always fun, but can become boring and repetitive.

We find ourselves sitting in the same old dark room with squeaky seats, shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers. Occasionally, it is nice to change things up a bit and throw it back to the 1950s.

The fifties youth indulged in big hair and poodle skirts, and for entertainment it was all about drive-in movies.

In the post-war years people focused on settling down in the suburbs and had all this free leisure time to spend enjoying simpler things like movies. Today they are beginning to regain popularity.

The Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-in is located here in Austin and is a great night out for everyone. They have showings every night at around 8 or 9 p.m. with a full list of the films and times online at their website: www.bluestarlitedrivein.com.

In the month of October they played Halloween themed scary movies including “Hocus Pocus,” “Lost Boys,” “Ghostbusters” and even “The Shining.”

Tickets for the film cost $6 per person for general admissions. The prices vary depending on whether you need a parking spot or if you would like an in-car radio.

The cost is definitely worth it though, as the city lights behind the screen really set the scene for the movie, making the experience really picturesque.

The drive-in theater would be the perfect place for a date or for a night out with family or friends.

I would recommend bringing pillows and blankets and sitting in the bed of a truck with some tasty treats and good company. Being outdoors watching a movie really makes it more of an exciting experience. Rather than sitting in a dingy theater for two hours, a drive-in movie is more personalized.

Try to pick a night when you know it will not be rainy or overcast, because bad weather really puts a damper on the experience. As the winter approaches it is the perfect time to snuggle up and watch a festive movie beneath the stars.

Tickets and more information about Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-in theater can be found online at their website. The experience was a really fun one, and I would definitely recommend it to movie-lovers who are looking to change things up a bit.

The drive-in was a perfect amount of throwback and modern fun and everyone should get a chance to try it.
