Fun Fun Fun Fest: Diplo, a dubstep disappointment

Wesley Pentz, a.k.a. Diplo, has had success in many forms. He discovered and produced M.I.A., worked the clubs as a DJ and has traveled the world looking for the next big musical act.

Warming up the Blue Stage just before Odd Future’s performance, however, was not much of a success. With a DJ set consisting of techno-pop mash ups and dubstep, he was endearing to the crowd at first and got very good reactions.

But his set seemed to drag on forever, especially for those waiting to see Odd Future. It felt repetitive, and the skull-rattling volumes made it worse.

Diplo was not a bad part of the Blue Stage, but his act was not well-timed or even particularly exciting after the first few minutes.
