Attack of the genres: Fantastic Fest returns to the Drafthouse

Fantastic Fest is one of the biggest and most unconventional film festivals in the world. It showcases the goriest, most horrifying and downright weirdest movies and short films. Held in Austin, the fest features genre films from all over the world and brings together filmmakers and lovers alike.

This year, the festival takes place Sept. 22-29 at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. Some of the most buzzed- about premieres include “Extraterrestrial,” a Spanish comedy about a mismatched group of acquaintances stuck in an apartment building during an alien invasion; “Juan of the Dead,” a zombie flick à la “Shaun of the Dead” set in Cuba; “A Boy and his Samurai,” a quirky Japanese tale of a single mother raising both her son and a young, time-traveling samurai; and “The Human Centipede II: Full Sequence,” the sequel to undoubtedly the most disturbing and disgusting movie ever made.

Fantastic Fest is also featuring the restored horror classic “An American Werewolf in London,” the gory and bloody Italian “House by the Cemetery” and remastered ‘80s Spaghetti Western
