Servage named player of the week

St. Edward’s University women’s soccer forward Kelly Servage was named Co-Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her performance in both matches on Sept. 3 and 5.

Servage, a junior, took advantage of a penalty kick in the Hilltoppers’ match against Washburn on Sept. 3, giving St. Edward’s an early lead. Washburn was unable to match the goal, and the Hilltoppers came away with the 1-0 victory.

In the Sept. 5 match against Eastern New Mexico, Servage scored two goals, leading the team to a 5-1 win.

“I was very excited to get Co-Heartland Conference Player of the Week, but it was due to an all-around great team effort that weekend,” Servage said.

Servage said that the team’s goal is to improve on last year’s success and advance past the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.

“It is awesome to play on a team that genuinely cares and plays for each other every game,” Servage said.

The Hilltoppers take on fourth ranked West Texas A&M at home Friday, Sept. 17.
