Men like Weinstein: 5 other male celebrities that never faced justice

Woody Allen isn’t the first celebrity to get away with assault.

Harvey Weinstein isn’t the only man in Hollywood who’s faced claims of alleged sexual harassment or abuse. Unlike Weinstein, many of these men didn’t stay in the spotlight for too long for these claims. This spark of resentment towards Weinstein is a milestone in Hollywood; it hopefully indicates that the tides are turning against abusers. The following is a list celebrities who’ve faced claims of physical or sexual abuse.

  1. Johnny Depp

The media blitz over Depp’s dark relationship with Amber Heard was hard to miss in 2016. The Hollywood hunk was accused of “excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse” from Heard. The public was eager to take sides. Despite having physical evidence of abuse, the couple settled on their divorce.

A popular tactic used by Depp’s lawyers was accusing Heard of gold-digging. It was an attempt to dismiss her character in the public eye. As a response, Heard gave up her entire $7 million divorce settlement to two charities: the ACLU and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

  1. Bill Murray

The Ghostbuster is still in the public’s adoration due to successful PR. Murray’s ex-wife alleged “adultery, addiction to marijuana and alcohol, abusive behavior, physical abuse, sexual addictions and frequent abandonment” which lead to Jennifer (Butler) Murray to file a court complaint in 2006.

She claims Murray told her “she was lucky he didn’t kill her.” She requested a restraining order against the actor, and their divorce was finalized in 2008. Murray has never specifically denied the abuse, in fact, he is rarely asked. It seems the public would rather turn a blind eye than face the truth.

  1. James Franco

James Franco allegedly harassed an underaged girl, Lucy Clode in 2014. Clode published the screenshots online and cited that Franco attempted to lure her back to a hotel room. Since the accusation, Franco joked of the matter on Twitter writing, “Well, yeah, this happened but it’s not my fault it’s the PARENTS’ FAULT.”

The post went viral and has since been deleted. Screenshots are always handy.

  1. Michael Fassbender

Sunawin Andrews filed for a restraining order against Fassbender in 2010. Andrews claimed she suffered two incidents of violent domestic abuse from her ex-boyfriend. He allegedly broke her nose after a night of heavy boozing and dragged her alongside their car that caused a twisted ankle, blown left knee cap, and burst an ovarian cyst. The charges were dropped in fear of damaging Fassbender’s career. Andrews went back to her alleged abuser and Fassbender never faced repercussions of his actions. It simply wasn’t Hollywood’s way of dealing with high status celebrities.

  1. Woody Allen

Allen was accused of touching the then seven year old, Dylan Farrow, inappropriately by his ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow. The charges were dropped shortly after Allen lashed back.

Dylan Farrow wrote an entire piece for The New York Times. The alleged assault took place in the attic of her home. She describes in detail of the alleged assault through the eyes of her younger self. She was gaslighted not only by doctors, but her own mother.

Farrow states, “Woody Allen is a living testament to the way our society fails the survivors of sexual assault and abuse.”
