Beyonce corny with that Ivy Park mess

Beyoncé is no-doubt the queen and usually everything she ever does is fine because let’s be real, she’s pretty perfect.  Looks like even queens can make a blunder every now and then. Recently Bey announced the release of a clothing line of athletic wear- Ivy Park.  This clothing line is unnecessary.

After the release of her new amazing song “Formation,” Beyoncé’s fans got excited in anticipation of a possible new album. Instead they got black and white headbands and leotards which is such a let down after Beyoncé’s killer halftime show performance and her “Formation” music video.

We’ve already got the celebrity endorsed expensive athletic wear if we want it (Kate Hudson’s Fabletics), but for some reason Beyoncé has chosen to imitate this trend instead of being the innovator we want her to be. It would be another thing entirely if this athletic wear seemed to be “luxury” or was giving us something that we can’t get at Sports Authority, but from the looks of it, the clothes are pretty baseline.

Making its debut on April 14, the brand will be just another line of women’s athletic wear. Leggings, shorts, shirts with “IVY PARK” branded all over them … if you’ve seen one item you’ve seen them all. On Beyoncé’s flashy website promoting the brand there are video clips and images of her and models trying really hard to make the clothing look extra special. The whole website is black and white and very intense.

In her video announcing the release of Ivy Park some of the same intense clips were featured, this time with the weirdest commentary accompanying it. In the video, Beyoncé tells viewers about her exercise habits.

“I would wake up in the morning and my dad would come knocking on my door and tell me it’s time to go running,” Beyoncé said. This sounds like a weird lie that someone says when they are trying to prove that they used to be really into running when they were younger and they’re just choosing not to do it anymore.

“I would think about my dreams. I would think about the sacrifices my parents made for me. I would think about my little sister and how I was her hero,” Beyoncé continues. This is supposed to be for a clothing brand, not Beyoncé’s next feature film, right?

Watching this video I almost felt emotional, which I think was the point, but mostly I was laughing at how weird it is that little Beyoncé was supposedly having all of these deep thoughts while running with her dad. When most normal people run, the only thoughts they have are, “When will this end?” and “What am I going to eat after this?”

She goes on to tell us how much she loved this park growing up and how when she was about to give birth she went back there, which once again just seems like she is trying to justify why she has come out with this seemingly random clothing line all of a sudden.

Beyoncé is amazing and a great role model for so many. But  a line of athletic wear is simply unnecessary and so basic- something the queen never is.

She could have released something innovative like a brand of underwear with built in butt-pads to give you that ever desired Beyoncé booty. Now that’s something I would want to buy.
