Cat cafés, petting zoos would reduce stress level on campus

St. Edward’s University is known for its extravagant buildings and interesting history. It is only fair to hope that the future of the university will be as remarkable as the past. For this reason, certain adjustments and amenities must be added in order to keep up with modern technology.

Some of these suggested amenities include frivolous objects such as rock climbing walls, water-bottle refill stations, a Starbucks in the library and better wifi. However, the most important amenity St. Edward’s should consider implementing is one no one has really giving much consideration.

Therapy animals have been brought to many college campuses improving morale and decreasing the stress. St. Edward’s should consider this as competition and challenge other universities with the creation of the first collegiate cat café and an on campus petting zoo.

A cat café is exactly as you would imagine: a café where the main attractions are cats. At these cafés, guests can enjoy their coffee while playing with any of the cats living there. Implementing one at St. Ed’s would be a dream for every college student missing their beloved pet.

Interaction with animals has been proven to minimize stress, assist with depression and provide inspiration to many people. So, as a way to reach out to the entire student body instead of just cat lovers, a petting zoo would be an equally effective addition to the campus.

Given that we are Hilltoppers, it only makes sense to have goats available to students. Goats are hands down one of the most adorable creatures to ever roam the earth, asking nothing but your sweater as a delicious snack in return for their love. Their ability to consume everything and anything is mesmerizing. It is like a living garbage disposal bah-ing at you.

Petting zoos are more than just goats. They feature many other tiny creatures including rabbits, pigs and llamas in the most obscure cases. The goofy looking creatures can put a smile on any face.

The importance of animal interaction is undeniable. Who doesn’t smile when they see a puppy outside of rags or stop to pet one of the friendly campus cats?

Animals have a way of brightening our day like nothing else. Not even marathoning the entire ninth season of “Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia” will bring someone the same amount of joy.

Whether it is a cat café or a petting zoo, a place away from the stresses of school work is always welcome on campus. These two suggestions only provide a platform, some inspiration and hopefully a smile. With finals coming up, the need for an escape is becoming very evident.

With this there is only one thing left to be said, goat forward and purr-sue those final exams with a positive approach.
