With warmer weather comes the end of winter wardrobes

Winter Fashion

There comes that time of the year when fashion seems–dare I say it–dull. Now is the time when we are awkwardly in between seasons and patiently awaiting the day we can open up our new sandals. Now is the time when shops begin teasing us with swimsuits, pastels and tank-tops. And although I am pretty much ready to hop out of my coat and into a sun dress, I am not quite ready to let go of my much-loved winter trends. So, as I am gearing to jump into spring season talk, I want to take the time to recap some of my favorite trends of winter 2013.

1) Fur

Does this need further explanation? Fur was everywhere this winter and it was fabulous. I mostly loved it because it made me feel like Carrie on multiple episodes of “Sex and the City.” I may not have looked as glamorous as her, but a girl can dream. Something that also deserves a mention in this category is Miley Cyrus’s outfit from the Grammys. If you have not seen it, you need to. Her silk Calvin Klein slip mixed with a big pink fur and strappy heels is practically perfection.

2) Leather

I am almost certain that I will always be into leather (thinking about my future self squeamishly looking at pictures of my current self). This winter, leather took the form of almost every piece of clothing you can put on your body. Jackets, boots, pants, skirts and even nail polish mimicked the timeless fabric.

3) The Mid-length skirt

There may be nothing better in fashion than the ability to wear a skirt when it is cold out, and the mid-length skirt makes that possible. It is chic, feminine and wearable. Just pop on some tights and a pair of boots and you are on your way to standing out from your usual hide-from-the-cold ensemble.

4) Beanies

Although not an avid beanie wearer myself, I admirably envy the girl who looks good in a beanie. I especially love when they are paired with a slightly more feminine outfit, giving just enough of a touch of masculinity. Dare I mention Cara Delevigne in another one of my articles? Yes, because her beanie wearing is impeccable.

5) Plaid

Plaid is another trend where femininity and masculinity meet right in the middle. There are few people who do not look good in plaid, and I believe that for the most part, it is a universally-loved trend. Take farmers–they love it. Look at the ’90s grunge days–they love it. Look at today–we still love it.
