Rugby rams opponents at tournament, win first place trophy

After last year’s top five finish nationwide, St. Edward’s University Rams Rugby is known across Texas as a team to fear.  After two fall tournaments, they are keeping that theme alive as they have won both tournaments and currently boast a perfect record.

The team, classified as a Club Sport under Campus Recreation, competes in the Texas Rugby Union, one of six divisions making up the United States Rugby Union.

This past weekend, the Rams traveled to the University of Texas-San Antonio where they played four games in one day.  They defeated the University of Texas-Dallas, San Angelo State University, and the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) to advance to the championship game. The Rams defeated UTSA in the final game  to bring home the championship trophy.

“The tournament this weekend really established our depth as a team,” senior Brady Faglie said.  “We had a few injuries to our starters in the first game that kept them out for the rest of the tournament, but our younger guys stepped up and showed that our talent goes beyond the first 15
