Two staff members featured in commercials

Two St. Edward’s University staff members were featured in television commercials for a local credit union.

Jennifer White, Head Coach of the women’s basketball team, has been a member of the University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) for 21 years. The credit union approached White last year and asked her to talk about her experience with the credit union on camera.

“Basically they ask members, people that have been members for a long time,” White said. “My relationship with UFCU started before I came to St. Ed’s…I came to Austin in 1990. The very first place I went was the words.”

White enjoyed filming the commercial and she–jokingly–compared her experience to modeling.

“I never considered myself a model but they would say, ‘hey, think about this,’ and they would take a picture. It was just real natural and it was a lot of fun,” White said.

White was not paid for her services for the commercial, though she received a Visa Gift Card for her participation, she said.

The university received a $1.7 million gift from UFCU this year, the largest corporate donation in university history. The donation will fund the renovation of the Alumni Gym, to be renamed the University Federal Credit Union Alumni Gym.

Joe DeMedeiros, Associate Vice President of University Advancement, was featured in a UFCU commercial in fall 2010. White’s and DeMedeiros’s relationship with UFCU is unrelated to the university’s partnership with UFCU, White said.

White has been the women’s basketball coach at St. Edward’s University since 2003. She led the Hilltoppers to a second place finish in the Heartland Conference in 2006-2007 season.
