Dig it! Hilltoppers defeat Dallas-Baptist, Hundt breaks school record

On Tuesday, senior Michelle Hundt led the Hilltoppers to a victory over Dallas-Baptist with a record-breaking 34 digs for a three set match—breaking the previous record of 33 set in 2007.

Early in the first set, the Patriots took a 3-0 lead, seizing opportunity for every error the Hilltoppers made. Although the Patriots kept control for more than half of the set, a kill by junior Ale’tra Ware ignited a massive nine-point rally that put the Hilltoppers up 21-17. Keeping the momentum, the Hilltoppers took the set 25-23.

Both teams exchanged leads in the second set. However, a block by senior Lindy Luleff and Ware shattered the 20-20 tie and sparked the last 5-2 run—leading the Hilltoppers to a 25-22 win.

Seeking to make a sweep over the Patriots, the Hilltoppers took a commanding 15-10 lead. Strong efforts from the Patriots proved worthy as they were able to take advantage of the Hilltoppers four errors and cut the lead down to one point. But a kill by senior Ashley Vander Hey finished off the set and sealed a victory for the Hilltoppers, ending the game with a 25-23 score.

Volleyball is currently ranked first in the Heartland Conference with a 5-0 record.
