Students express value of a dollar through art installation

What is the value of a dollar? That’s what the Kozmetsky center, visiting artist Tutu Bayar and the St. Edward’s University Art Department are asking students.

All students as well as alumni are welcome to submit their ideas of what a dollar means to them. The only requirements are that the submissions must fit on a seven by seven inch paper and must be able to be hung on a wall. This could include paintings, photographs, collages, poems, short stories or illustrations.

Submissions were due Monday, and the unveiling of all the art will be Oct. 24.

The final collection of the submissions will also include the work of visiting artist Tulu Bayar.

“I view myself as an observer of life and the content of my work addresses contemporaneous issues specific to the human condition,” Bayar said in her artist statement.

Bayar said that she gets her inspiration from routines she observes around her, such as listening to the radio and browsing through a used bookstore, among other things.

Students on campus are also participating in the event. Junior Kristin Moore made a watercolor painting to answer the prompt.
