Summer Preview: Concerts

Summertime in Austin is ripe with exciting shows all over town. There are plenty of hype-worthy intimate shows and secret treasures to stumble upon this summer, but what about the show stoppers, the scene stealers and the musical spectacles?

First for those who love the crooner Michael Bublé, his Crazy Love Tour reaches Austin June 1 at the Frank Erwin Center. On June 11, dynamic duo Matt and Kim bring their infectious power pop to Stubb’s and come July 30, Katy Perry’s California Dreams Tour should bring the pop fireworks. Also at Stubb’s, folk rock raconteurs the Decemberists come to town just in time to cure those late summer blues on August 8. Lastly, expect the line-up for September’s Austin City Limit’s Music Festival to be announced sometime this spring.

Even under the Austin heat, it shouldn’t be difficult to find refuge and clear your sizzling mind. Get in touch with your artistic side by venturing to a number of Austin’s premier spots for the arts. I Art Congress, featured by the Austin Museum of Art, will be held June 9 and July 14, highlighting the many cultural offerings Congress Avenue has to offer. The Hideout Theatre will be featuring Pick Your Own Path plays on June 10 in which the outcome of the live performance is completely up to the audience — they may lead the actors down a road of great success or an ultimately grisly finale. Finally, the wonderfully convenient Zilker Hillside Theatre presents its 53rd annual summer musical, “Footloose,” from July 8–Aug. 13.
